The National Building Code of
India (NBC), a comprehensive building Code, is a national instrument providing
guidelines for regulating the building construction activities across the
country. It serves as a Model Code for adoption by all agencies involved in
building construction works be they Public Works Departments, other government
construction departments, local bodies or private construction agencies.
The provisions of architectural glass in Section 8 under Part 6:
"Structural Design: Structural use of glass and glazing systems in buildings
shall govern the
a. Selection and application of
glass in buildings with different types of glass and their requirement and
associated glazing materials.
b. Guiding provision for glazing
in building with respect to their effect on energy, visual (light) and solar
environment in the building.
c. Selection of glass in
buildings, subject to wind loading, seismic loading and special considerations
for the fire rated glass and related materials.
d. Provisions for the selection of
and manifestation on glass used in buildings, subject to safety with respect to
human impact on the occupants
e. Provisions relating to glazing
systems such as selection, design, fabrication, installation testing and
Guidance has been provided for making buildings
and built environment energy efficient and environmentally compatible, through
the newly introduced and updated chapter on sustainability, namely Part 11
'Approach to Sustainability'. Provisions on fire and life safety have been
thoroughly revised to meet the challenges of modern complex building types
including the high rises.
In this light, Glazing Society of India with the support of the Glass and Glazing Knowledge Forum is conducting the Train the Trainer workshop between 1st and 3rd February 2018, to train faculties who would disseminate
the knowledge on the use of glass and
glazing systems in buildings to the professionals of the Industry.
